GLASS MOSAIC ART

Glass Mosaic Art

Beginner and returning adult students will learn and create Glass Mosaic Art by fashioning a beautiful, unique Mosaic design on a decorative terra-cotta plate. The student will be learning extensively about Glass Mosaic tools and techniques which allow them to prepare their own glass pieces to incorporate in their design. A large selection of pre-cut materials will also be available.

This project takes 5 classes to complete.

STAINED GLASS ART 

Stained Glass Art for Beginners

Stained glass art can capture light in fascinating and magical ways. For those adults who are new to Stained Glass Art and want to learn how it is done from beginning to end, this is the perfect place for you. During this popular course, each participant will complete a Stained Glass Suncatcher project of easy to moderate difficulty.  Taught within our exclusive Glass Art Studio space, our class size is kept small with the focus on having fun with Stained Glass and learning to do it well.  Tools and equipment for cutting, grinding and soldering are provided, as well as selection of Stained Glass, solder, copper foil and flux.

Stained Glass Art for Returning Students

For returning students to Stained Glass Art.   

Each participant will design and complete a Stained Glass Panel project of easy to moderate difficulty.  Students who are looking to advance their design, cutting, grinding, and soldering skills will love this class.  Tools and equipment for cutting, grinding, and soldering are provided, as well as a selection of Stained Glass, solder, copper foil, and flux.

STAINED GLASS STUDIO TIME / DROP-IN

Stained Glass Studio Time / Drop-in

For artists with prior experience in stained glass we offer Stained Glass Drop-in/Studio Time. The Drop-in/Studio Time will not be a class and instead will be an opportunity to utilize Monroe Street Studio’s space and materials for your own personal projects. There will also be a resident studio assistant available for any questions you may have while working!

With the hourly payment, you will have access to:

  • The studio’s scrap glass
  • Flax
  • Patina
  • Tools and equipment
  • Storage space for your project

The following is not included, but is available for purchase at the Studio, at nearby stores, or online:

  • Spools of solder
  • Stained glass sheets
  • Foil
  • Jump rings
  • Chains
  • Frames

Studio Time will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Registration is required in advance. If you are interested in attending Studio Time, please send a confirmation email specifying the dates and times you prefer.

PAINTING FOR BEGINNERS

Painting For Beginners

Explore the world of painting with acrylic paint using different techniques and tools such as pallet knives and brushes.  In this short 5-class introductory course, you will enjoy working in impressionistic/abstract style.  You also will be introduced to concepts of color theory, composition, perspective and dimension.  

Enjoy creating in a small group of enthusiastic adults, in a friendly and professional art studio environment!

All materials will be provided.

PAINTING STUDIO TIME

Painting Studio Time / Drop-in

Painting Drop-in/Studio Time is available this Winter Semester! This will be at the same time as the Introduction to Painting for Adults class (starting 1/4/2023 from 10am-11:30am) and will be in the Painting Studio located on the main floor. The Drop-in/Studio Time will not be a class and instead will be an opportunity to utilize Monroe Street Studio’s space and materials for your own personal projects. Join fellow artists in sipping some tea and unleashing your creativity! There will also be a resident artist/instructor available for any questions you may have while working!

Prior registration is required.  This can be done by sending us an email to confirm your preferred times and dates.

Paper Cutting Art 

Paper Cutting  for Beginners: Adults

Learn the traditional art of paper cutting in this introductory course by drawing and hand-cutting your own unique design.  You will not believe how a plain piece of paper can transform with a sharp knife and your own imagination.  We will be using craft knives to carve an adorable image into decorative paper. All materials and a variety of interesting papers will be provided. Join the fun in a relaxed and creative atmosphere!

SEWING ART CLASS

Sewing for Beginners: Teenagers (13+) and Adults

Let’s learn about all that your sewing machine can do! In this class, we will teach you the fundamental skills of sewing with a sewing machine, including sewing machine anatomy and safe operation, essential stitches, fabric properties, seam awareness, using rotary cutters and shears, and basic measurements for drafting simple shapes.  We will learn how to create anything from potholders to quilts, and we will use our artistic minds to stitch together colorful fabrics and make projects we love. This course welcomes beginner students to learn sewing skills as well as have fun while practicing this craft. We are looking forward to helping you feel confident while using the sewing machine!

DRAWING FOR BEGINNERS

Academic Drawing for Beginners

This intensive course is for adults who want to develop or improve their drawing skills. Challenge yourself by experimenting with cross etching and charcoal.

Gypsum models and still life compositions will be used in a range of drawing experiences to study and apply techniques and concepts of light, perspective, proportions and composition. Studio Owner and Art Teacher Yana Farmer provides individual guidance to help each participant build skill proficiency.

Suitable for beginners and those who want to advance their work.

ACADEMIC DRAWING RETURNING / INTERMEDIATE

Academic Drawing for Returning / Intermediate 

This intensive course is designed for adult students would like to improve their drawing skills. The short course will take you steps further in understanding the rules and concept of constructing Still Life Compositions.  Topics such as: Search for Proportions and Chiaroscuro (Light and Shadow) will be considered using the example of plaster models.  The practicing of shading (Crosshatching) will help you achieve the volume and realism of your drawings.

Did you miss the beginning of the session but still want to enroll? Want to do a trial class to see if it is a good fit for your student?  Opportunities are available – please contact art@monroestreetstudio.com for details.

Attendance policy: Due to the nature and continuous presentation and refinement of new skills and techniques covered in these program, we ask that students do their very best to attend all classes within a session. At the end of the session, there will be a makeup opportunity for anyone who has missed a class for whatever reason within that session.  We will no longer be issuing credits or refunds when two or more classes are missed due to student schedule conflicts or illness. Students who are aware that they might miss two or more classes should discuss the situation with the Studio prior to registering for the class.
